In the UK, the only dietary source of vitamin D is oily fish. Most of our vitamin D comes from the sun. But there is a problem: many people in the UK do not get enough from sunlight, because their skin is unable to absorb the sunlight that produces vitamin D, latitude (the UK is very far north) reduces vitamin D synthesis in all cities, melanin content (the darker your skin, the less vitamin D you will get from the sun) by 50%, and sunscreen (SPF 8 and above).
