One Lamberts® Plant Sterol tablet a day may help maintain normal blood cholesterol levels. This tablet provides 800 mg of 'free' (or pure) plant sterols, with up to 80% beta-sitosterol. We state the level of pure sterols in our tablets, not the weight declared by some companies, which may be only 50% sterols.

Sterols are naturally found in vegetable oils and grains, and have been shown to have high health benefits. Structurally, plant sterols are similar to cholesterol, and are shown to be good for health by partially blocking the reabsorption of cholesterol from the intestines. Cholesterol is naturally secreted into bile for digestion and then largely reabsorbed in the intestine. By blocking this cholesterol reabsorption, plant sterols may have a positive effect on blood cholesterol levels, even when a low-cholesterol diet is consumed.

Modern diets tend to be generally low in plant sterols, which is why foods such as margarine are fortified with sterols. These fortified foods may contribute to overall sterol regulation, but achieving an optimal intake with this product may not suit everyone.
