It takes over 14 grams of fresh ginger root to obtain the concentrated amount found in one of these capsules! Each capsule delivers 24 mg of gingerols, which are unstable compounds that are lost when ginger is cooked, dried or crystallised. Very few supplements provide these levels of gingerol, and in fact many of them state a level on the label that they do not actually contain.

The concentrated dark ginger paste is dissolved in sunflower oil and delivered in a capsule. Using this method preserves active components such as gingerols and zingerone.

Ginger has a long history of use as an aid to digestion, as its 'warming' properties have a soothing effect on the system. Ginger supplements are recommended as part of general wellness programmes, compared with products such as glucosamine and fish oil.
