Just a few months before the author died of the dreaded disease, tuberculosis.

A conflict that justified the rule of a government which had developed a system and a science to control and suppress the individual.

Life was dominated by observation and surveillance by the state; people spoke only the language of the newspapers, and society was divided into the masses, the broad party and the narrow party.

The world was dominated by three superstates spreading across many continents.

This was Orwell's life, in which the private life of the person did not exist, and, ironically, the victims of the state are able to develop sympathy for the overseer and sometimes even to love him.
