The Disappearance of Josef Mengele

Josef Mengele (the Angel of Death), former torturer at Auschwitz, arrives in Argentina in 1949. Hidden behind various pseudonyms, he believes he can build a new life in Buenos Aires. For three decades he lived quietly in South America, although he had carried out some of the most horrific experiments on Auschwitz prisoners. He was always several steps ahead of Mossad agents, international police and journalists from around the world…

In this novel based on rigorous research, almost entirely on historical documents, Olivier Guez follows Mengele's trail during the years after he left Europe. The Disappearance of Josef Mengele takes the reader on a literary quest after one of the most shameful and criminal figures of the twentieth century.
