Seasons

Dear children, the book "Seasons" must be in your library. It is a very good way to build on what you learned at school about Luigj Gurakuqi, whom you know as an outstanding fighter for our nation's freedom and progress. But he was not only a statesman, scholar and publicist, he was also a poet and translator.

This book gathers some of the poems and prose pieces that Luigj Gurakuqi wrote with great dedication for young pupils.

In the poems carefully selected by Pandeli Koçi, nature and the seasons of the year are sung about with love, each with its own special beauty and usefulness. They describe in detail trees, fruit trees, birds, flowers, snow, and also the fate of the poor.

The short prose pieces are written simply and clearly, so young readers can understand and enjoy them right away. These stories and fables are based on folk tales. They express with sincere and warm feelings longing for the homeland and for Shkodra, the author's birthplace.

Gurakuqi's writings are in the Gheg dialect. For easier reading, the meaning of some words is explained. This will help you understand the poems and prose more clearly and absorb their message better.
