The title "Shtergjet" refers to a sect founded in the 18th century in the territories of Tsarist Russia, which believed the world was under Satan's rule, and to whose service all institutions, both clerical and secular, belonged. Believing a struggle with Satan impossible, members of this sect could only flee from Satan, since, in their view, evil found it hardest to conquer a person in constant motion. "Shtërgjet" consists of a mosaic of characters in continuous motion. The modern world seems to move in disarray, and chaos seems ubiquitous. Thus, this book weaves together movements of all kinds: people known and unknown, historical and fictional characters, people or mummies, and so on. If this disordered movement can be elevated to the dignity of a journey, or even a pilgrimage, it must be disciplined. This book conveys the difficulty of disciplining human movement. Only then will movement deserve to be called a journey, or better yet, a pilgrimage.
