Forbidden Rumi

After countless and life-giving encounters with Shams of Tabriz, Rumi, this great 13th-century mystic, poet and forerunner of the whirling dervish dance, renounced many principles of official religion, insisting that only complete personal dissolution in the majestic energies of the Blessed God can bring the fulfillment the soul so persistently seeks. Afterwards, Rumi began to speak the language of poetry. Meanwhile, his followers compiled forty-four thousand verses that he uttered into twenty-three volumes under the common title "Divan".
