"Landscapes Painted with Tea" is the second most famous novel by Milorad Pavić, the Serbian author who was the leading candidate for the Nobel Prize in Literature over the last decade. This book, published in Albanian for the first time, presents an extraordinary form of novel, as it is written in the form of a crossword puzzle to be filled in while reading, horizontally and vertically.
The book is a challenge for an unusual reading, as extraordinary is the story of the country described, which no longer exists. The book immerses us in a Balkan story about the lives of people caught between a past they cannot possess and "titism", which they cannot escape.
"Pioneer of postmodern literature", as Pavić is considered, comes from the Slavic tradition of Hilandar, where he is regarded as the last and most important continuator of that tradition. Pavić's ancestors and characters intersect. His ancestor was a sculptor, son of a painter and mosaic artist who paints landscapes with tea! The novel's event tells of an architect from Belgrade who travels to Greece to find traces of his father, lost during World War II.
