Strange characters fill the stories of Clemens Meyer: a divorced man who spends all his money betting on horse races, hoping to win enough to cover the cost of treating his dog; boxers, prisoners, homeless people and dreamers wandering the night cities, etc. Through events unfolding in small apartments, empty warehouses, prisons and by the riverbank, Meyer harshly strikes the present and finds lights shining in the darkness. He plays the sounds of his time with short, sharp yet delicate sentences; he tells of great illusions, desires and loneliness. From one short story in this volume a great film could be made. "I want to write stories that illuminate," he says about the stories in the book Nata, dritat.
