Manual of the Fall

Johannes Kessler, a German journalist, returns to Tirana 34 years after the statue of the dictator was toppled to uncover the "truth" – and to search for Marta. What he finds is not a single answer, but memories that don't match, incomplete files and shadows of the past that refuse to disappear. Was the toppling a spontaneous act or a carefully constructed scenario?

Manual of the Fall is a novel about a real event – yet everyone remembers it differently. Weaving fiction with authentic documents of the era, Jonila Godole creates a literary kaleidoscope about love, guilt, oblivion and memory.
