Janka, a young girl in pursuit of freedom and seeking self-fulfillment, decides to become an actress. Work on stage gives her the idea that her dream has come true, but reality has little to do with her expectations. The pay she receives is not enough to make a living. The great role promised to her is taken away. As a result of her failures, she reaches a critical point: ill, lonely, exhausted by the struggle for survival, deprived of hope for a change of fate, she tries to end her life.
The Comedienne is one of the most important works of Reymont, alongside the novels The Promised Land and The Peasants.
Władysław Reymont, who appears in Albanian for the first time, is one of the most prominent Polish writers. In 1924 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, chosen among writers such as Thomas Mann, George Bernard Shaw and Thomas Hardy.
