The Client

Ana, 29, after a heartbreak in love, is constantly trying to find happiness again and break away from her past. The author takes us through the labyrinths of Ana's soul and her struggle with herself, her father's Balkan mentality, and backward taboos. Things seemed to be going in the right direction, and Ana would take over her parents' successful business, a cozy café somewhere in Chicago. Meanwhile, Ana's life takes unexpected and even tragic turns. She is on the list of suspects in a murder and in the disappearance of Carlos, her new lover, with whom she has only recently started a relationship. Through the events and psychological unraveling of the characters, the author conveys the message that our nature, together with the environment in which and how we were raised, shapes individual human formation. As in the author's other books, this thriller is written in simple, engaging language, full of events that keep you in suspense and reflections where we sometimes find the right answers.
