The Land of Green Plums

The main character, a student from the Swabian community during Ceaușescu's regime in Romania, is shaken by the suicide of Lola, one of her roommates. The situation becomes even more distressing when she finds Lola's diary. This mysterious death will bind four friends forever: the main character, Kurt, Edgar and Georg, who together will try to stand up to persecution, informing, violence and countless shortages.

The absurdity of life under dictatorship and an unwavering dissident stance go hand in hand in this novel, described as the masterpiece of Nobel laureate Herta Müller.
