The Worst of Myself

Karli and Frederiku are two brothers from the city of Ters in Albania, an imaginary city resembling a collage of various Balkan cities. Their father, a fanatical former communist (who named his sons after Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels), is being taken to his final resting place. Karli returns from emigration to his homeland to attend the funeral. While burying their father, the two brothers begin to dig up old memories, misunderstandings and resentments between them.

The two brothers embody opposing ideals: one of the rebel and the one who fled far from the homeland; the other, the philosophy of submission and of not abandoning the homeland. The first seeks to shed light on the dark era of communism, while the second wants to leave it forgotten.

The events will take the reader to four other cities in Europe and America before returning to Ters. Because you cannot know where you are going without first understanding where you came from.
