Aeneid for Children

"Aeneid" is a Latin epic poem written around 29-19 BC by the Roman poet Virgil. It belongs to the era of the Homeric poems. It tells the legendary story of the Trojan prince Aeneas. He was the son of Anchises, the Dardanian king, and of the goddess Venus (Aphrodite). After the fall of Troy, the gods had determined his fate, and he was to found a new city in the land of the Latins. Aeneas undertook a journey full of adventures to Italy, where he also became the ancestor of the Romans. Aeneas was already known from the legend and myth of Greco-Roman tradition, being a character of the Iliad. The Aeneid is widely considered one of the greatest works of Latin literature.
