Antigone

Antigone, the daughter of the infamous Oedipus, struck down by fate, decides not to silently accept the will of the gods. Though alone and aware that it will cost her her life, Antigone chooses to defy the arbitrariness of the state, not to provoke an uprising or set a heroic example, but for a simple reason: human morality and divine laws are more important than the laws of the state or ruler.

Antigone is the most accomplished, most distinctive and most complete work in its message to come to us from the ancient world. Both its masterful literary form and its content remain relevant and highly valued today.
