2. What are things made of?

Caramels are made from sugar, and sugar is made from plants. Your knitted jumper may be made from sheep's wool, and many bridges are made from stone. Some things we make by taking materials directly from nature, and others are made from artificial materials. The things we use every day are made of all kinds of materials: wood, paper, metal, glass, wool, cement, and many, many other materials. But we always have to use the right material to make things. Can you imagine if this book were made of metal? It wouldn't be very easy to use, would it?
